IIn May 2010 the school became a foundation trust with our partner Chellaston Academy. This structure involves a close working relationship with Chellaston and their governors. There has been some additional funding to support the school to ensure we continue to make progress and provide the best possible education for all our students.
The school had its official formal opening in June 2009 with Mr Nigel Clough, Manager of Derby County FC doing the honours. Many former staff and colleagues from other schools, businesses and other organisations also attended.
The school has had a number of notable successes through its engineering specialism. It is the lead school in the city on delivering the engineering diploma qualification with Derby College and in the Young Apprenticeship course with Rolls-Royce. In this regard our former Head Boy was nominated and recognised as a Young Apprentice of the Year in the East Midlands regional award in 2009.
Our educational vision is based on the following mission statement:
Learning Brings Success
Success comes when:
• Students and staff enjoy coming to school every day
• Students participate in exciting and challenging lessons
• Every student is enabled to recognise and achieve their full potential
• Staff and students respect each other, co-operate and can share a joke
• There are good levels of support, facilities and resources to meet our needs.
